It’s Elementary

The 7 elements of drawing

Registration opens soon

It’s elementary

There are 7 basic elements needed by every artist. These are concepts and skills that simply require knowing them and practicing them, over and over (and over) again. Any artist you admire or envy; the’ve studied and practiced these skills during their entire career, beginning to end.

Keep it simple

I don’t use fancy supplies for my daily practice. If you don’t already have a stash of art supplies you can go to any art store and ask for help assembling a basic drawing kit. A few pencils of different hardnesses, an eraser, and decent paper are enough to start. As your skills and confidence grow you’ll add to your tool kit but to start you don’t need too much.

Show up

We have busy lifestyles today. It can be hard to block out a time, guilt-free, when it’s a personal project. I get it. 99% of any practice isn’t the practice at all, it’s simply showing up for it. I will sound like a broken record by the end of our 8 weeks but a big part of your success in this course will be showing up and being consistent.

Commit/community

You’re supplying the desire and the intention to show up. For some people that’s the only motivation they need. Most of us need a little something more. We need a community of like minded people to help keep us on track and provide motivation and recognition for the hard work we’re doing.

You’ll have access to a private Facebook community where sharing is encouraged but not required, and where you can participate in conversation, encouragement and advice with other women on their own journey.

Guidance

Through videos, readings and challenges we’ll learn what the elements are and how they work in a drawing. The old adage “Practice makes perfect” is what I lean on heavily. It’s not enough to know what the elements are. Your hands, eyes and mind need to do, see and understand these principles intimately, and the only way to get that is to practice. A lot.

Every Monday a new module drops with inspiration and goals. There will be daily pre-recorded sessions on the specific skills and challenges to use them successfully. You’ll have information you can print, information you can watch, and inspiration to use all that information to build your skillsets.

The transformation

At the end of our eight weeks together you will have been introduced to, practiced endlessly, and discovered how to use most effectively the 7 elements of drawing. You will have seen your drawing skills not just improve but expand, and what felt like a chore the first few weeks will become a treat that you can’t get enough of.
